ANOTHER BIG DAY FOR SAGE DESIGNS NW
THE ORCAS ESTATE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS ARE COMPLETE!!
One more set Signed/Sealed/Delivered by the hand of Wize Guy Sage K. Saskill.
A beautiful 3400 SF house to be built super green for a super cool couple. We have been massaging the design into this fabulous form since May of 2009, incorporating as many sustainable features as we could dream up. Green roof. Super insulation. Rain water catchment... the list goes on. I'm looking forward to the territorial view from the Cupola.
GOT C-BOX CABINS?
ARC IN THE PARK NO MORE
ARCHITECTURE 5CENTS BOOTH AT THE WALLINGFORD MARKET THAT IS. DONE.
THERE WERE MANY GOOD THINGS: A LOT OF INTERESTING CONVERSATIONS, THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP WITH GREAT IDEAS FOR DIRT CHEAP, THE MISSION OF HELPING MAKE ARCHITECTS LESS SCARY; AND THE VERY REAL FACTOR OF KEEPING ME SHARP - BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO WALK AWAY WITH SOMETHING THEY CAN REALLY USE EVEN IF THEY'RE ONLY SPENDING A NICKEL DAMMIT!AND LET ME NOT FORGET TO MENTION THE WONDERFUL MARKETEERS - THOSE SELLING LOCAL WARES IN A VARIETY OF COLORS AND FLAVORS. AMAZINGLY KIND, GENERALLY CALM, AND USUALLY WILLING TO GIVE ME THE WIZE-GUY VENDOR DISCOUNT ON THE GOODIES - ONE OF MY FAVORITE PERKS IN THE PARK.
ON THE DOWN SIDE - A MAN CAN NOT SUPPORT HIS FAMILY ON NICKEL TREEHOUSE DESIGNS. THE FACT IS THAT THIS GIG HAS ONLY GENERATED A FEW ACTUAL PROJECTS FOR A FEE. SO IT'S ON TO THE NEXT VENTURE FOR ME.
THANKS TO JOHN AND TO THE MARKET MANAGERS FOR THE AIR TIME.
IT WAS BIG FUN.
SIGNING OFF,
THE 'OTHER' NICKEL ARCHITECT

Beautiful day. Beautiful produce.
GERMAN PRE-FAB PROJECT UPDATE
The first ship is due to arrive tomorrow (Thursday) with 6 of the 9 containers full of America's first Huf Haus. This project has been on my drawing board at S.A.G.E. Designs NW Architecture Studio for over 4 years and for 3 years prior to that at Living Shelter Design Architects. It is a luxury home fabricated in a shop in Germany. My clients feel that this home is light years ahead of american technology in terms of energy efficiency, perhaps 30 years. This could be true - we shall see how it performs in the great northwest climate.
We have removed the existing house - an energy Dog. Some was recycled intact including 25 beams (by me & crew) for an addition to my own home. Other parts were salvaged by Second Use (love those guys). The remainder was sent to be sorted and ground into various post-consumer products. I'm told that very little was sent to the land fill (& based on current tipping fees, this is most likely true).
The foundation is currently being constructed. I liken it to a fancy cake platter built state-side for the fancy cake soon to arrive. This is a serious foundation built of auger-cast piles (2ft dia) with grade beams (2ftx2ft) and precast concrete planks. Sometimes I say that you could build a fire station on top of this foundation.
I'm currently working on the stainless steel posts and cable design for the rear deck and stairs. I'll keep you posted on progress... and we hope to do a time-lapse video of the setting of the house.
